Oakham Book Swap is supporting Nine and a Half Lives Cat Rescue this month, and will be hosting a Big Book Swap to raise funds for the local rescue.

Each month, a local group who swap and exchange books while raising money for a range of good causes, select a new local or national charity to support. Last year, they supported 12 local and national charities and raised over £300 through donations and raffles.

Run by Lisa Batty, Oakham Book Swap collects donations and runs a raffle in aid of a different charity each month, all while running a regular book box outside her family home when the weather allows it.

Oakham Book Swap is a community-led project that hosts a pop-up book swap box on Tyne Road, Oakham. Residents are invited to pick up a new book or drop off unwanted books to share with other readers.

The swap contains fiction and non-fiction books for anyone aged 3 - 93, and is open to all. It opens when the weather permits and the team host regular 'Book Swap' events to raise much-needed funds for local and national charities.

This month, Lisa has decided to raise funds for Nine and a Half Lives Cat Rescue, since February marks one year since the family adopted their fur baby from the local rescue centre.

Lisa explained: "February marks one year since we adopted our cat, Napoleon, from Nine and a Half Lives Cat Rescue, so this month we're delighted to make them our chosen charity! Napoleon is usually hovering around the book boxes on our Big Book Swap days, so you might get to meet him ~ apologies if you get a surprise paw grabbing your ankles!

"Nine and a Half Lives do a brilliant job caring for unwanted, stray and feral cats, and they'd love to hear from you if you are able to adopt.

"Our next big swap is Sunday 11 February from 10.30am-2.30pm - all donations and raffle ticket purchases will be going to Nine and a Half Lives Cat Rescue."

Join the team this weekend for the Oakham Big Book Swap on Tyne Road, Oakham, and follow the team on Facebook.

They usually host their big book swap on the second Sunday of every month. You can follow other events hosted by local organisations on our What's On page.
