Oakham Book Swap is supporting Pancreatic Cancer UK this November, and will be hosting a Big Book Swap to raise funds.
Each month, a local group who swap and exchange books while raising money for a range of good causes, select a new local or national charity to support.
Every November, the group supports Pancreatic Centre UK as a part of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and because the charity holds a spacial place in the heart of founder and bookworm, Lisa Batty.
Run by Lisa, Oakham Book Swap collects donations and runs a raffle in aid of a different charity each month, all while running a regular book box outside her family home when the weather allows it.
Oakham Book Swap is a community-led project that hosts a pop-up book swap box on Tyne Road, Oakham. Residents are invited to pick up a new book or drop off unwanted books to share with other readers.
The swap contains fiction and non-fiction books for anyone aged 3 - 93, and is open to all. It opens when the weather permits and the team host regular 'Book Swap' events to raise much-needed funds for local and national charities.
Lisa explained: "Any donations left this month, and money raised through our raffle donations on Sunday 12 November, will be donated to Pancreatic Cancer UK."
Pancreatic Cancer UK is a registered charity supporting people affected by cancer. They offer information and support around diagnosis, symptoms management and treatment.
Pancreatic Cancer is the 10th most common cancer in the UK and has a high fatality rate.
The cause is one that is close to the heart of Lisa, as her father suffered with Pancreatic Cancer.
