For keen cyclists, the Jon Egging Trust's annual 'JET Ride' event on Sunday September 26 offers the perfect late summer event to raise vital funds to help young people.
Taking in the natural beauty of the Lincolnshire countryside, riders will begin at RAF College Cranwell and can choose a 50, 80 or 100 mile round route to suit all abilities.
Hoping to raise £40,000 to help the charity reach its target of helping 1 million youngsters by 2031, JET needs everyone to saddle up for this great cause this September.
The charity was created by Dr Emma Egging in memory of her late husband Jon, who died in a Red Arrows display in Bournemouth ten years ago. He is buried in Morcott, where he lived at the time.
Starting from RAF College Cranwell, the ride quickly sweeps out across the rolling Lincolnshire countryside, which organiser Duncan Mason says is a huge part of the event's appeal.
Duncan said: "The relatively flat ground around Cranwell makes JETRide a great novice event for those who are fairly new to the sport, but with riders able to choose between three routes of 50, 80 and 100 miles there's still plenty to challenge the experienced cyclist."
The RAF connections of both JET and Cranwell will be celebrated throughout the day.
He added: "Last year we were delighted to secure a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and they're hoping to join us again this year too. Cranwell is steeped in RAF history so it's a really fitting and poignant finale to the day."
There's a serious side to JETRide too, with riders being asked to raise £100 each to help fund an expansion to JET's education programmes in its 10th anniversary year.
The charity, which supports vulnerable youngsters at who are at risk of dropping out of full-time education, has recently announced plans to expand its reach to 1 million young people in the next decade.
In addition, it is poised to launch a new JET Futures stream in response to the surge in youth unemployment brought about by the pandemic.
Open to both experienced and novice cycle eventers, JET Ride is a great way to raise money for charity and enjoy a day spent outdoors.
