Oakham Town Council have issued a notice announcing the temporary closure of offices and postponement of meetings until further notice.

The announcement said: 'Notice is hereby given to all residents that the Oakham Town Council offices are currently closed, and all upcoming council meetings are postponed until further notice.

'This temporary measure is due to the current absence of all council staff, include the Proper Officer and Responsible Financial Officer.

'As a result, the council is temporarily unable to legally or operationally conduct standard business or hold public meetings.'

The notice goes on to say that the council will be unable to respond to 'standard administrative enquiries' during this time and asks residents to get in touch with Rutland County Council for local issues, public services and urgent municipal matters.'

The statement ends by saying that the council are working to resolve this situation as quickly as possible and that rescheduled council meetings will be arranged soon.

I've no idea why Oakham Town Council has shelved operations. All Parish/Town Councils experience interregnums of Clerks/Responsible Officers from time to time. It goes with the territory when such Councils have a single member of staff.
Our Parish Council, doesn't cease operating during interregnums, it just shares out the necessary functions between Parish Councillors, while recruitment of new Parish Clerk takes it's usual course.
