Ketton FC has withdrawn its men's senior team from the Peterborough and District League.

The amateur club, which was founded in 1987, posted on social media this afternoon, this was due to "lack of player commitment."

The statement said: "This is not a decision we have taken lightly and everyone associated with the club is devastated."

Praise was given to James Bratton the club's committee to find players "for the campaign but sadly this has not been possible."

The statement added the ladies and veterans teams will continue and it is hoped the first team will be back in the near future.

The move follows Sammy Linford joining the club as the new Assistant Manager, along with the upcoming season, which would feature a series of local derbies.

Football supporters reacted with sadness at the news.

Andrew Brooks said: "So many teams folding this season. Very sad times for grassroots football."

Shaun Harley said: "A sad sad state of current affairs in grass roots across the whole country.

"People have lost complete interest and spiralling costs is not helping either.

"If the Football Association don't soon help out clubs this will become a common theme across the board....Absolutely crazy."

Ian Laughton added: "Unfortunately commitment as been on the wain for a little while as well, the pandemic hasn't helped at all."
