Oakham: Introducing your new Editor, Evie

By Evie Payne

27th Feb 2022 | Local News

Hello Oakham Nub News readers both new and old!

My name is Evie and I think it's about time I introduce myself.

While I have been writing for Oakham Nub News for a few months now, I officially took over as the Editor this week on the 21st of February. Prior to this I was only writing a handful of articles a week.

Now I will be sharing more current news, views and breaking stories from in and around Oakham, so thank you for bearing with us while we worked through the staff transition period.

I will also be reintroducing old features and instigating new ones, such as 'Property of the Week' and 'Oakham's Amazing People' features. You can nominate a local person to feature as our weekly amazing person by emailing me at [email protected], so get involved!

Now for a little bit about me:

I have lived in Oakham since December 2019 which means that, with the months of closures due to the pandemic, I am still getting to know the town and it's people.

When I first moved to the area I worked at Catmose Sports Centre, then did a short stint at Lands' End before taking on this role, so a few local people may already know my face. For those who do not, I have included a photo in this article, so if you see me around town do feel free to pop over and say hi. I love to chat.

I am taking on this new role alongside my PhD, which I am undertaking at Sheffield where I am in my final year. Because of this I do a great deal of writing, most of which is based from home.

As such, please feel free to reach out to me at any point as I love getting out and about and meeting new people, which can be challenging with my workload and home-based office set up. You can contact me via the Oakham Nub News Facebook page or my email which is [email protected].

In my spare time I love to ski, hike, sing, read, sew, sail, explore the local area and meet new people. I like a lot, so reach out, because we'll probably have something in common that we can turn into a great local article. Alternatively, if there are any local clubs or events that you think I or the Nub readers should hear about, please pop me a message.

I have very much enjoyed my first week on the job and am particularly excited about getting Oakham Nub News back in touch with the local community, as I have started doing this week. I have been chatting to some great local people, celebrities, and business owners with the hopes of getting them directly involved with Oakham Nub both now and in the future.

For any business owners or Oakham residents who haven't heard from me and want to get involved, please feel free to email me on [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I would also love to support local charities and societies, so please send in any events, dos, fundraisers or parties that you are planning. You can submit these yourself by clicking the 'Nub It' button at the top of our website and selecting 'Add Event' or by emailing me directly.

If you share your event with us, we may even feature it in our weekly overview of events in Oakham. This is shared on all of our social media channels on Thursday morning and is viewed by hundreds of readers.

If you have any other feedback you can, once again, contact me by messaging the Facebook site or emailing me. We like to try and tailor the Nub experience to suit the local community, and we can only do that with involvement from you.

I look forward to hearing and writing about Oakham, the local residents, and all that they have to offer, so get in touch and say hi!
