Oakham's amazing people: Kelsey and her fundraising skydive for Prickleback Urchin Hedgehog Rescue
Local woman Kelsey Monins is set to take part in a skydive this Easter in support of Prickleback Urchin Hedgehog Rescue, a local organisation based in Market Overton.
You can find out more about Prickleback Urchin Hedgehog Rescue on their Facebook Page. Alternatively, read on to hear more about Kelsey's fundraising journey.
When she was visiting Rachel and Jay, who run the hedgehog rescue centre from their home, Kelsey met little Patti. Patti is a sweet little hedgehog who was in need of hands-on care, so Kelsey stepped in to help out.
Patti stole Kelsey's heart and, naturally, Kelsey decided to throw herself out of a plane to raise funds for the hard working couple and their hedgehog haven.
Kelsey said: "Opening the Prickleback Urchin Hedgehog Rescue showed everyone how selfless, kind, generous and gracious Rachel and Jay are. But to be honest, when they took their first hedgehog in, I thought they were a bit bonkers. Now they've had 44 of the gorgeous spiney creatures through their doors, I KNOW they're bonkers.
"Therefore, in order to raise much needed funds for their on-going vets bills, top quality procedures and care they give the hedgehogs, I've decided to do something equally as bonkers. In the middle of April I am going to get on a plane, travel up to 13,000 feet, and fling myself out of it."
Kelsey aims to raise £600 and all funds raised will be used to cover the veterinary fees that Rachel and Jay incur through rescuing and treating these vulnerable little creature.
Those wishing to donate can do so by visiting Kelsey's gofundme page where you can choose to donate any amount that you are able to this wonderful cause.
Just £5 will feed a hedgehog for a week, while £12 will buy a much need pack of puppy pads to line their cage.
A donation of £22.11 will pay for the medicine needed for one simple round of treatment.
£45 will pay for the x-rays needed to determine if something is broken and £59 will cover the cost of treatment if a poorly hog comes in with internal parasites.
Finally, £300 would cover the cost of an oxygen concentrator that the rescue centre so desperately needs.
Kelsey said: "Please if you can, donate to this much needed cause, even if it's only a little. Every little bit really does help!"
She concluded: "I jump in the Easter holidays, so hopefully I have enough time to get brave!"
This gives you a few more weeks to share this page, spread the word, or donate some funds yourself.
Alternatively, Rachel and Jay have set up an Amazon Wishlist where local people can send donations of food, medical supplies, and much more direct to their home.
