Oakham Market in Pictures

By The Editor

Markets are what give a town their character.

Oakham's market is held every Wednesday and Saturday.

The charter market in Market Place (where else?) dates back centuries and is even mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

Here's what we found earlier today.

It certainly seems to reflect the county motto of Multum in Parvo, "much in little."

Though not as big as Stamford's Friday market, the typical fruit and fish stalls were there, along with a few things rarely seen, like a stall with a most extensive and wonderful collection of hats.
