The MP for Oakham and the surrounding area has praised government policy in regards to the start of Pride Month today.

Conservative MP Alicia Kearns took to Twitter to celebrate recent policy initiatives by the British government.

"This Pride Month I am so happy that we've made two big steps forward this year," the 33-year-old MP said.

"The first is gay men will be permitted to give blood, which is long overdue.

"The second is we will be banning LGBTQ+ Conversion Therapy which I've campaigned for since my election and will save lives.

The MP for Rutland and Melton has also served Oakham since 2019.

For those that may not remember her policies pledged at the December 2019 election campaign, she has had the hashtag '#BanConversionTherapy' is even in her bio on Twitter for months.

Our MP has over 14,000 followers @aliciakearns.

In August 2020, Kearns campaigned for the government to reform the Gender Recognition Act 2004, to be more incluside of transgender people.

The mum-of-two was elected with over 46% of the vote.

It is currently unknown how many LBGTQ+ residents there are in Oakham, as we await the results of the census in March 2022.
