On the 25th of May 2022, Oakham Nub News shared an opinion piece from Oakham local Jamie Williamson regarding concerns with the leadership of Rutland, local Policing methods, and population increase in Oakham.

Read about this here.

Following this, Rutland resident Jacqui Thibault wrote in to us to share her own thoughts on the provocative content raised.

Jacqui said: "I share your concerns. Although I don't live in Oakham (5 miles away), Oakham is my town. I moved here 22 years ago and have seen the total destruction of a lovely vibrant market town!

"I am not against change or progress, but only if it benefits the new and established residents. We have had over the years (expensive) surveys to gather local views. Most of which result in the RCC commenting that, " when resources become available".

"An increase in population (not rocket science) that an effective infrastructure is required. The RCC say the issue regarding poor GP services, is not their responsibility, but the CCG!

"Limited school and nursery places, is mainly dealt with "academies", not their responsibility!

"Shopping used to be a pleasure, but clearly parking is going to be a major issue with thousand more residents. RCC answer is to employ more traffic wardens!

"Parking at Tesco on a sunny Saturday is just a game of 'musical cars'

"Clearly our voices are not being heard. The answer? Civil Disobedience?

"Change is inevitable. I was not against McDonalds, Aldi or Lidl. Good parking!

"I really would like to know how residents can really be heard. Surveys are ignored, so what can we do?"
