A popular Oakham restaurant is moving to larger and more prominent premises.

Rutland restauranteur Jonathan Spencer announced the move on Facebook yesterday.

It follows Mr Spencer last year taking over Hoppi Dorri in Stamford, launching Orbis in Stamford and planning to bring Hoppi Dorri to Oakham.

Mr Spencer, who also runs Bill's Bar in Oakham, said: "As we announced last week we have great plans for the future.

"This week we have created a new menu for our Stamford restaurant incorporating the best of Hoppi Dorri including sushi.

"There is still a few tweaks to go but overall the feedback has been great and this new look concept will be exactly what we plan on bringing to Oakham in a couple of months time."

He continued: "We can now reveal that we have agreed a deal to take on this rather striking historic building on Mill Street.

"It will give us not only additional covers for people to enjoy the full restaurant experience but also we will have a main bar area for just cocktails/drinks and also the really cool downstairs cellar bar which we are very excited about...

"There is lots of work to do to get the building ready but we are hoping to open at the end of October but more details will come in the coming weeks."

He added: "We cannot wait! #bigthingsahead!"

Orbis Oakham is presently based at 4 Church Street.

The future venue, currently empty, previously contained the Mill Street Pub and Kitchen gastropub.
