Rutland residents praised as waste figures tumble
By Nub News Reporter 23rd May 2026
RESIDENTS in Rutland have been praised for helping the county cut costs and help the environment, saying their efforts are making an 'incredible difference'.
Since Rutland Council's new food waste service began on 30 March, residents have helped recycle more than 200 tonnes of food waste! Instead of going to incineration, that waste is now actively helping to produce green energy.
The council says: "Your efforts are making an incredible difference across all our bins: household black bin waste is down by a massive 300 tonnes this April compared to last year and dry mixed recycling grey bin waste is up by an extra 10 tonnes
"Our next goal is working together to reduce overall food waste right at the source, helping households save money and protect our environment even more!"
