Oakham resident Michael Baker has spoken out about flyers and posters advertising events being left up after the event has passed, causing 'street clutter.'
Mike told Nub News that 'Whilst fly-postering is illegal, most people will have no objection to well-meaning organisations using them to promote their events.
'One wonders how local organisations can be encouraged, after the 'sell-by' dates have expired, to go round and remove the street clutter so as to respect our environment? We all know that there are bigger issues in the world, but this is such an easy thing to do.'
According to Mike, on a 15 minute walk around Oakham last week, he spotted 5 posters for outdated events, as well as four outdated planning notices.
The events being advertised date back as far as May 2024, including advertisements for Cirquoise and Pride which ended in August. He also spotted planning notices from Rutland County Council that were discussed in March, April and June of this year.
'One can accept that the council will say that their notices are not fly-posters,' said Mike, 'and that they have a statutory duty to display such notices, but one could respond to say please take them down after the statutory period has ended.'
