By The Editor 17th Aug 2021

Rutland has recorded 14 Covid-19 cases over today, further pushing the county's 7-day case rate to its lowest in a month.

The county now has recorded 2465 people having tested positive with the virus since the pandemic started- about one-in-16 of its population- better than England's one-in-ten of the population.

The 14 positive tests recorded today compares with 25 over the weekend, 14 on Friday, 6 on Thursday, 10 last Monday and 12 the Monday before.

The 7-day rate has fallen to 197.6 cases per 100,000, down from yesterday's 205.1, last Monday's 281.6 and 248 the Monday before.

England's smallest county also continues to record no fatalities, after the weekend two weeks ago saw the first death since April.

The number of deaths remains at 66, about one for every 600 residents, which compares with the national average of one-in-500 residents.

Prior to the latest fatality about ten days ago, the last recorded such death in England's smallest county was on Wednesday April 28. Before that it was Thursday March 25.

Meanwhile, in Lincolnshire, South Kesteven has recorded its second Covid-19 linked fatality in a few days.

This is similar to what happened two weeks ago, when two cases were also recorded over a few days.

Prior to this, the previous Covid-related deaths in the district took place on May 5 and March 25, giving us six deaths in almost 5 months.

It means since the pandemic started, official government figures record 274 fatalities within 28 days of a positive test for Covid-19.

The total amounts to 191.3 deaths per 100,000, which is equivalent to one fatality for just over 500 residents. The England average is one death for just under 500 residents.

Today, also saw 78 cases of Covid-19 recorded in South Kesteven, which compares with 43 last Monday and 58 the Monday before.

The 7-day case rate remains at 329.6 cases per 100,000, the same as yesterday, but an increase on the 317 on Friday.

This compares with 277.2 cases per 100,000 last Monday, 215.6 the Monday before and 301.9 the Monday before that.

This compares with an England average of 306.4 cases per 100,000 of population, which has steadily and consistently grown in recent weeks, whilst South Kesteven has fluctuated a little.

Overall, since the pandemic started, the district has recorded 10,285 positive tests - about one case for each 14 residents. Again, this is better than the England average, which is almost one case for every ten people.

The figures come amid much testing, currently running around 670,000 a day or 5.3 million over a week.

Across Lincolnshire, 373 cases today, which compares with 726 cases over the weekend and 373 on Friday.

This gives a grand total of 59,176 cases since the start of the pandemic, an increase of 2,688 over the past week.

The 7-day case rate is now 350.8, down on the 353.1 cases per 100,000 yesterday and the 358.7 recorded on Friday.

This is higher than the England and South Kesteven averages.

The number of recorded deaths increased 3 to 1650, which follows on from 4 over the weekend, 3 on Friday and four on Thursday.

Nationally, 26 deaths were recorded today, compared with 61 yesterday and 100 on Friday. This gives a total over the week of 624 over the week, an increase of 10 or 1.6 % over the week.

The total number of UK deaths now stands at 130,979.

Today, 28,438 cases were recorded, giving a total of 203,604 over the week, an increase of 9,376 or 489 per cent over the week before.

The number of hospital admissions is recorded as 882, compared with 880 on Sunday, amounting to an increase of 111 or 2.1 per cent over the past week.
