Oakham: Rutland chip shop plans withdrawn after battering from council and public
Plans to convert a butchers shop into a fish and chip shop have been withdrawn after they were battered by nearby residents and a parish council.
More than 100 commented on the application concerning a change of use of a butcher shop to the fish and chip shop, with a single storey extension to be used as a convenience store.
The application to Rutland County Council concerns Fancourts Farm Shop at The Square, Ryhall.
The application said the convenience store would stock everyday items such as coffee, groceries, snack foods, confectionery, soft drinks, and tobacco products.
"We feel this will benefit the area vastly, as there is not a store close by. This will help with employment too."
However, Ryhall Parish Council said it strongly objected to the proposal with reasons including the noise and smells the development would bring, the extra traffic, that nearby pubs also served fish and chips and the village is also served by a mobile fish and chip van.
The parish council also told Rutland County Council: "The Planning Committee additionally acknowledges large numbers of objections from the local population both on the RCC Planning Portal and direct to Parish Councillors. In addition, three written objections have been sent to the Parish Council Clerk."
Residents expressed similar views.
