More than £2,100 has been raised for the NHS in a charity golf day organised by a Rutland man.

The annual Rutland and Borders NHS Charity Golf Day takes place at different golf courses around the local area and has raised thousands over the years for much-needed charities and this year it was the turn of the NHS.

The event last Friday saw 56 golfers take on the 27-hole course at Belton Park Golf Club, near Grantham, for a one-day tournament to raise money to support the key workers that have kept the country going over the last 18 months.

Main sponsor Ignite Dating presented individuals and teams that achieved various accomplishments throughout the day with awards and prizes, including Chris Evans who was awarded the first-place individual trophy and Dean Headley, Mark Laud, Keith Crellan and Chris Evans who were winners of the best team round.

Organiser Mark Owen said: "After a difficult year, we wanted to organise an event that not only allowed us to raise money and show our appreciation for all the nurses and doctors that have been on the frontline during the pandemic, but also give people something to look forward to.

"We are grateful to Ignite Dating for their contribution as the main sponsor for the event. They are well-known and respected, not only in the local area but also nationwide, and it is great that they could get behind an event like this to share in our appreciation for the hard work that has been done to help us through this pandemic."

Michelle Begy, Managing Director and Founder of Ignite Dating said: "There is no denying that the last year and a half has been tough, but without the help and support of the key workers in the NHS, the navigation through the pandemic would have been a lot harder."

"They have shown courage and resilience in the most demanding and unprecedented circumstances, and we are very grateful for all the hard work and long hours they have given to keep the country running. We were very proud to be the main sponsor and to have the opportunity to raise as much money as possible to fund the necessary charities and show our appreciation for everything that they have done."
