Rutland's community safety partnership is hosting two market day events for residents to come along and discuss any concerns they may have about community safety in their local area.

The Safer Rutland Partnership is a group made up of local agencies, including Rutland County Council, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. The partnership works together, and with local communities, to reduce crime and promote safety throughout the county.

The first community safety event will take place at Oakham Market on Wednesday the 13th of April, the next at Uppingham Market on Friday the 29th of April 2022.

Rutland County Council's Community Safety team will be joined by representatives from Leicestershire Police, the Council's Road Safety team and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the health and social care organisation Turning Point. Residents will be able to ask questions and get helpful information about crime prevention, ways to keep safe and how to report any safety concerns where they live.

Councillor Lucy Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Communities at Rutland County Council and Chair of the Safer Rutland Partnership, said: "We're looking forward to meeting residents to discuss any community safety concerns they might have. It's important we hear directly from local people to understand what's worrying them and how this can be addressed.

"As a partnership, we work closely together and have a long-term plan to tackle community safety priorities like road safety and theft, as well as 'hidden harm' and County Lines (drug) offences. Rutland is already a very safe place to live but we don't take that for granted, which is why the work of the Partnership and events such as these are so important."

Sergeant Paul Kear from Rutland Neighbourhood Policing Area said: "We're very pleased to be joining our partners Oakham's market on the 13th of April and in Uppingham on the 29th of April. After a strange two years, during which meetings and consultations in person have been few and far between, we are pleased that the events calendar is filling up again and we can meet people in person.

"We are now able to be present at more events and meetings especially in areas of high footfall, such as local markets, and look forward to meeting shoppers and residents and responding to their local comments and concerns."
