Rutland residents can have their say on the care and upkeep of the local grounds in a new survey which is running until the 6th of May 2022.

Rutland County Council is consulting residents as part of a process to update its approach to grounds maintenance and forestry work.

The Council is responsible for grounds maintenance on most of the land which it owns. This includes grass cutting, weed spraying and hedge maintenance – all carried out by an external contractor. As a Highway Authority, Rutland County Council also directs work to cut roadside verges in line with national plant life guidance.

With its current contract for grounds maintenance and forestry services coming to an end, Rutland County Council is drawing up requirements for its next contractor. This will also help the Council to meet government policy changes that will come into force in the next few years – particularly in relation to the environment and climate change.

Before deciding how its new grounds maintenance and forestry service will operate, Rutland County Council is seeking the views of local residents, communities and businesses. Anyone wishing to find out more and take part in this consultation can do so online.

Here you will find a short online survey consisting of questions about grass cutting, tree planting and overall responsibility for grounds maintenance and forestry services.

The survey will remain live until Friday the 6th of May 2022. The changes put forward as part of this public consultation would make an important contribution towards achieving local Climate Action goals.

Any changes to Rutland's grounds maintenance and forestry services resulting from the consultation would come into effect after January 2024.
