Oakham Town Council is looking to co-opt a new member.

And there's just a few days left to apply.

Town mayor and council chair Zoe Nealson told Nub News: "There are lots of reasons you might want to join Oakham Town Council, you could have a general interest in local politics, you could have a passion for the area, you could be particularly interested in getting involved in a specific project or you could feel that you have skills that would be of benefit to the council as a whole.

"Whatever your motivation we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and all experiences.

"Being a town councillor can be a learning curve, discovering how and why things are done according to the laws and rules in place can sometimes be an eye opener, but being involved in something that brings joy to residents, or makes our town look even more beautiful can be a really rewarding and satisfying experience."

Mayor Nealson added: "Whatever your interests being a town councillor gives you the opportunity to share your own views and to represent the views of the people living in your area.

"It's easy to sit back and say what you think Oakham Town Council should be doing, now is your chance to get involved and make it happen."

The deadline for applications is Monday August 9.
