Oakham United edged the Rutland derby on Tuesday evening with the only goal of the game by James North.

Going into the game only three points separated the two teams so a close encounter was always on the cards and so it proved.

Oakham started well and had a header saved by the Ketton goalkeeper in the opening minutes.

The game alternated between end to end play with both sides looking for an opener.

Ketton's best chance came in the first half when they hit the post and Oakham were perhaps fortunate to escape so lightly.

At half-time neither side had got the breakthrough but eight minutes into the second half James North settled the match from close range following a pass from Kris Kefford.

Oakham had several other chances throughout the game but were not able to capitalise on them.

Late pressure from Ketton resulted in a couple of corners and a near miss from a header but Oakham held out to take all three points.

This win puts Oakham back in the top half of the table and extends the unbeaten run to seven games.

The attendance of 79 was the highest at Lonsdale Meadow for a league game since 21 December 2016 when Oakham played Blackstones in the United Counties League.

The last home game of the season is on Saturday 27 April against Whittlesey Athletic - kick-off 2pm.
