The encounter with Stamford Lions got off to a quiet start but developed into a real local derby with both sides going for a winner.

The competitive edge was measured in the number of free kicks to both sides.

David Bates was the first Oakham player to have a shot on target on the half hour mark and triggered a ten minute spell of Oakham pressure.

It culminated in a penalty to Oakham after Cameron Brookes was hacked down in the area. The Lions goalkeeper did well to save and the first half ended goalless.

It was to be Lions who went ahead from a penalty in the second half before a spirited fightback by Oakham resulted in the equaliser. Joe De Lucis rose above the Lions defence to head the ball into the net following a corner.

The final twenty minutes of the game saw both teams going for all three points but in the end honours were even.

As a result of the point from this game Oakham are now in the top half of the table. With two home games remaining Oakham have managed to score at least one goal in every game played this season.

The next game is another local derby at Lonsdale Meadow against Ketton on 16 April, kick-off 7.30pm.
