Oakham United 3 Long Sutton Athletic 0

By Guest 26th Nov 2021

A crowd of about 50 enjoyed the early Spring sunshine at Lonsdale Meadow where Oakham United won 3-0 against Long Sutton Athletic.

The match was all but settled within the first twenty minutes as the double strikeforce of Michael Nelson and Cameron Brookes both netted to give Long Sutton a mountain to climb.

United are now unbeaten since January and the win last Saturday was the second clean sheet in a row.

Going into this game Michael Nelson was not only the Oakham United top scorer with 28 goals but also the top scorer in the Peterborough and District League Premier Division.

Josh Gooding scored the third goal in added time to underline Oakham's superiority.

Although Long Sutton had a couple of half chances they were not able to break down the Oakham defence. Their best chance was a shot that hit the crossbar and apart from a couple of long range efforts they did not pose much threat.

Next Saturday Oakham are at home to Stamford Lions. Get down to Lonsdale Meadow in Barleythorpe and support your local non-league team.
