Oakham: Welland Vale to get spooky with pumpkin picking
Welland Vale garden centre is getting spooky this autumn.
The popular garden centre at Glaston Road, Uppingham, wants customers young and old to join them for a week of fun picking pumpkins starting on Saturday October 23 until Sunday October 31.
The garden centre's Annie Burns said: "Pick up a barrow and search around our spooky patch for your perfect pumpkin. Along the way be careful of the ghosts, spiders, bats and maybe even a few witches!"
Entry to the event is free (with free parking ) and there is no need to book, customers just pay for their chosen pumpkins. Furthermore, with each transaction customers receive a free Halloween biscuit from the Orchard cafe.
This will be the first time Welland Vale has ran such an attraction, which will run from 9am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm) from Monday - Saturday and from 10am to 3.30pm on a Sunday.
Annie said she was inspired to launch such an event as she knew it would be enjoyed by children over the half term period. The picking is also under cover if the weather turns poor.
"Picking pumpkins is also something we like to do with our own children," she said.
"We have had much interest from people already and so many say their children are looking forward to coming."
Welland Vale have more seasonal events ahead including festive later night shopping and lunch with Santa, which will be advertised on its social media pages.
In the meantime, the Inspirations cafe is now back to being open full time. It is also launching a brand new afternoon tea, as well as a new menu starting tomorrow. Sunday lunches will also be returning soon.
The wiggly worm soft play centre also re-opened today.
