We have a great range of events to share in Oakham this week to help lift you out of that post-Christmas slump and get you celebrating the New Year.

  1. Epiphany Carols
On Saturday the 8th of January, Cambridge Fundraising Choir are returning to Rutland to perform a recital of choral music for Epiphany, raising money for Cancer Research UK. This event will be running from 19:00 until 20:00 and will see the choir add to the £10,000 that they have already raised for Cancer Research UK's Brain Tumour Research scheme. The choir have said: "Over 9,400 people in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year (Source: Cancer Research UK). We hope that with your support, we can help contribute towards improving pioneering treatment methods, with a view to drastically improving survival statistics for our loved ones." Ticketing for this concert is on a pay as you feel basis. "We know how much live music has been missed during the pandemic, and we want to ensure that the concert is accessible to anyone who would like to attend. Our suggested donations are as follows, but please feel free to donate as you are able to and we would encourage you to pay more if you are able for this wonderful cause." Standard ticket: £10

Fundraising booster: £20

Concession ticket: £5

Reduced rate ticket: £2

Tickets for the event can be purchased from Eventbrite.

  1. Oakham Social Cycle Ride
Saturday the 8th of January also sees a fantastic free event rolling into Oakham, the January Oakham Social Ride. Run by local store, Sigma Sports, this ride caters for riders of all ability and will take two groups of cyclists out exploring the villages north of Oakham. Group one will ride at approximately 15 – 18 mph and take a 50 kilometre route, while group two will tackle a 43 kilometre route at around 12 – 14 mph. Both groups will head out north from the Sigma Sports Oakham store, looping around the outskirts of Langham before going through Ashwell. Group two will then turn back south once they have passed Buckminster, while group one will continue north before skirting back via Twyford. Both groups one and two will follow the same run in back to the Sigma Sports Oakham store, as they head through Market Overton and Ashwell before rolling back through Oakham. As an added bonus, coffee and cake will be served in the store for those looking to boost their energy levels. You can register for the event through Eventbrite and the organisers simply ask that you read the T's and C's on the webpage before registering.
