Budding gardeners can attend Oakham Castle's Annual Seed Swap this weekend, or get ready for Valentine's Day with an array of events and meals to tickle your tastebuds.

  1. Wisteria Wedding Fair
With the approach of Valentine's Day, love is in the air, and with love, comes marriage! As such, the Wisteria Hotel will be hosting a Wedding Fair from 11am until 3pm on Sunday the 13th of February. Come and take a look around the beautiful, newly decorated Wisteria Hotel. Chat to some lovely suppliers and enjoy a glass of bubbly. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite. There will also be a FREE GOODY BAG to those who register, so get yourself and your better half signed up for this beautiful event!
  1. Annual Seed Swap

The dream event for amateur gardeners or those with seasoned green fingers, the annual Seed Swap at Oakham Castle will see locals claiming free seeds for their flower and veg beds, and meeting to swap seeds and share stories.

The event will run from 11am until 1pm on Saturday the 12th of February.

While stocks last, there will be free seeds for attendees to claim.

Alternatively, you can exchange seeds - bring along your surplus or unwanted seeds to swap and bag some new species for your own garden.

Meet garden volunteers from the Sensory Garden at Oakham Castle and Root & Branch Out and you will be sure to get some wonderful gardening advice to help your garden flourish.

Whether you are novice or a green-fingered expert, all are welcome, so pop down to meet some new people, claim some freebies, and swap seeds and gardening tips!

  1. Valentine's Day

Extend those romantic weekend celebrations by booking yourself in for a romantic meal out at one of Oakham's many wonderful restaurants on Monday the 14th of February.

One of these is The Dovetail, a relatively new restaurant to Oakham, based in the centre of town.

Their Valentine's dinner consists of canapés, a glass of fizz, and a classic three course meal with both veggie and meat options.

The price for The Dovetail's Valentine evening is £50 per couple.

Alternatively, The Royal Duke are hosting a more exotic Valentine's Day meal, offering a selection of curries and drinks. This is also a 3-course meal and is £30 per person.

For those looking to blow the budget, Orbis are offering a Valentine evening tantalisingly titled, An Aphrodisiacs Delight. On the menu there is wagyu beef, oysters, and sogroppino, followed by a choice of venison or sole, rounding off with an assiette of chocolate.

This will set you back £55 per person, but the array of food is vast and will certainly tickle every tastebud.

Finally, for something a bit further afield, The Plough in Greetham are offering a 3-course dinner with a bottle of prosecco to boot, all for £49.95 per couple.

The Dovetail can be booked by emailing [email protected].

The Royal Duke are contactable on 01572 868238.

Orbis take their table bookings online, so follow the link to book.

To book your Valentine's Day meal at The Plough, call 01572 813613.

Happy Valentine's Day!
