Oakham's Cancer Research UK shop will be relocating this April.

Currently located at 5 Market Place, LE15 6DT, the charity shop will be moving to Unit 2, Panniers Way, Tungsten Retail Park, Oakham, LE15 7US next week.

Every year, around 28,600 people are diagnosed with cancer in the East Midlands. Money raised in Cancer Research UK shops enables scientists to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer - moving closer to a world where everyone can live longer, better lives free from the fear of cancer.

Fiona Riley, Store Manager, said: "Opening the new site is going to be a fantastic opportunity to help Cancer Research UK fund more life saving research. We have been well supported by the residents of Oakham and surrounding villages, for many years, from volunteer hours to the very generous donations but trading from a bigger site will require more of both.

"The store will sell everything from electrical items, clothing and soft furnishings, gifts and women's, men's and children's wear - with all profits going to fund research."

The new store will be open from Monday to Saturday, 8.30am – 5:00pm and Sunday 10:00am-4:00pm.

The team are still welcoming volunteers to join them at the new store.

Residents who want to make a real difference and have a passion for fashion, books, films and impacting local lives are encouraged to apply. Anyone with an eye for a bargain who want to help customers find pre-loved gems would be a welcome addition to the team.

Emma Atkins, Community Resourcing Co-ordinator supports volunteer recruitment, is on the look out for a team of volunteers to support the store following the move.

Emma explained: "Our existing volunteers in Oakham have been, and continue to be, essential in the daily running of our shop. Without them, we simply could not trade to our full potential. To continue this success in our new shop, it is vital that we continue to build our volunteering team.

"The people volunteering in our shops tell us that they love their time with us because it makes them feel part of their community. They sign up solo but leave as part of the family."

If anyone would like to volunteer or find out more, please get in touch by visiting the Oakham Market Place shop for a chat with the manager or email [email protected] about how to get involved.

Alternatively, head to the new shop in 11 April 2024, when the team will be opening the doors to the brand new venue bursting with unused or pre-loved and second hand goods - and a bargain or two to be had!
