The Railway in Oakham has reopened, with the addition of an alternative live music and late night venue called The Steam Bar.

The venue us set to host a grand opening event this weekend, despite holding a 'soft opening' last weekend.

The Railway, located on Station Road in Oakham, was refurbished in 2022, but closed in 2023 as Stonegate Pub Partners searched for a new landlord to take over the lease.

Now, the venue, aimed at Rutland's over 21s, has been taken over by Jonathan Spencer, who owns Bills Bar on Oakham High Street, and recently stepped back from running The Angler in Mill Street, formerly named Orbis under the local publican.

The Railway and adjoining Steam Bar Oakham will be hosting a grand opening on Saturday 10 February as an alternative venue for late nights in Oakham.

The venue will offer:

  • a monthly 80s night
  • a monthly Motown night
  • regular live music
  • regular comedy nights
  • regular jazz nights
  • regular Blues nights.
  • regular open mic events.

The Steam Bar will be welcoming new local band, Laketown to join them for the launch evening - a local Country trio who featured on BBC Radio last year.

The venue will open on the weekend of 9 - 12 February, with a comedy night set to take place on 9, ahead of the grand opening featuring Laketown on Saturday.
