Ahead of next month's on-call firefighter recruitment, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is staging a 'Have A Go' day for potential future firefighters in Uppingham.

The Uppingham event will give anyone interested in applying the chance to get a taste of this rewarding role.

Potential recruits will get an insight into what an on-call firefighter does and the required strength, fitness and aptitude levels needed.

Rick Taylor, Chief Fire and Rescue Officer, said: "On-call firefighters play a vital role at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and they help us provide the very best service to the local communities we serve.

"We hope to encourage members of our local communities to come forward, find out more and ultimately apply for a role.

"This is a real opportunity for honest members of our local communities, who are looking for a rewarding job where they can also give something positive back to their local community."

On-call firefighters play an important role in operational response. They carry an alerter and respond to emergency calls, where they face all kinds of challenges within their local community and help to create safer people and safer places.

It is a paid role and how much is dependent on your availability and the number of calls you respond to.

The 'Have A Go' day is taking place on Sunday, 12 January from 10am to 3pm at Uppingham Sports Centre, Leicester Road.

If you are unable to attend, get in touch with Uppingham Fire Station and you may be able to visit on the weekly drill night to find out more and meet your potential future colleagues.
