Police in Leicestershire and Rutland urge rural communities to take urgent action
By Grace Kennington 26th Jan 2026
Leicestershire and Rutland's Rural Policing Team is urging rural communities to take immediate action.
In a statement, the Rural Policing Team said: 'January 2026 has seen a significant and concerning rise in rural crime across Leicestershire and Rutland.
'This increase is being treated as a priority by the Rural Policing Team, and we are working intensively with partner agencies and neighbouring forces to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.'
They warn local farmers, landowners, rural businesses and residents 'reassess and strengthen their security measures without delay.'
They suggest checking: CCTV systems are fully operational; quads, gators, trailers, and other valuable equipment are properly secured and stored; and trackers are installed, active and functioning correctly.
They also suggest the layering if multiple security measures, including: CCTV, silent alarms or beams, quality locking systems, security lighting, and reinforced chains.
The team say they are always there to offer guidance and support for advice on improving your security.
