More than 200 customers enjoyed the opening night of a festive alpine-themed après ski bar in Oakham on Monday (9 Dec).

Pop-up Après Bar has taken over the former The Yard, in Church Street, this month thanks to the premises' new owner Jonny Spencer.

Following the success of the first night for Oakham's late-night shopping event, Jonny is now looking forward to the rest of the pop-up's run of six nights pre-Christmas starting tonight (Fri).

Guests can sample 15 winter cocktails - alcoholic and non-alcoholic - mulled wine and cider, speciality hot chocolate and liqueur-based hot drinks and Jägermeister served in ice glasses.

And, in a first for Rutland, Corona is available on tap.

If you are feeling peckish, there is a choice of savoury and sweet fondues - cheese or Nutella.

Jonny, who is also owner of the town's Bill's Bar, told Oakham Nub News: "We are very excited to show the people of Oakham what we have done with the pace and our festive drink and food selection.

"One of our favourites is the Terry's Chocolate Orange martini...perfect paired with a Toblerone millionaire shortbread made exclusively for us by our friends at Rutland Cakeaway."

If the pop-up proves popular Jonny intends to stage it again next year, with more dates added.

Jonny also has 'exciting' plans for the premises post-Christmas.

"I can't say too much at the moment, but we will are looking at the cocktail market so the festive pop-up is the perfect opportunity to gauge the reaction," he added.

The Après Bar is open tonight from 5pm to 11pm.

Other days and times are:

Saturday, 14 December - 5pm to 11pm

Friday, 20 December - 5pm to 11pm

Saturday, 21 December - 5pm to 11pm

Monday, 23 December - 5 to 11pm

Christmas Eve - 12noon to 9pm
