An alpine-themed après ski bar is opening in Oakham this festive season.

The pop-up Après Bar is taking over the former The Yard, in Church Street, in December thanks to the premises' new owner Jonny Spencer.

For six evenings, guests will be able to enjoy 15 winter cocktails - alcoholic and non-alcoholic - mulled wine and cider, speciality hot chocolate and liqueur-based hot drinks and Jägermeister served in ice glasses.

And, in a first for Rutland, Corona will be available on tap.

If you are feeling peckish, there will be a choice of savoury and sweet fondues - cheese or Nutella.

Jonny, who is also owner of the town's Bill's Bar, told Oakham Nub News: "We are going to create a proper winter wonderland experience - no holds barred, including a real Christmas tree.

"We are going in on Monday to get things underway.

"If Father Christmas can find time in his hectic schedule to join us, we are planning to host a free grotto for children on Sunday, 22 December.

"It's an exciting new experience for Oakham and, if it proves popular, we will do the same again next Christmas with more dates added."

Jonny has 'exciting' plans for the premises post-Christmas.

"I can't say too much at the moment, but we will are looking at the cocktail market so the festive pop-up is the perfect opportunity to gauge the reaction," he added.

The Après Bar will be opening its doors for the first time for Oakham's late night shopping event on Monday, 9 December from 4pm to 11pm.

Other days and times are:

Friday, 13 December - 5pm to 11pm

Saturday, 14 December - 5pm to 11pm

Friday, 20 December - 5pm to 11pm

Saturday, 21 December - 5pm to 11pm

Christmas Eve - 12noon to 9pm
