The community radio station serving Rutland and Stamford will be out and about this summer, staging a series of pop-up radio events.

Rutland and Stamford Sound is keen to hear from local communities who are interested in hosting the station during its programme of outside broadcasts, to be staged during May, June and July.

Station Manager, Rob Persani, explained the thinking behind the new initiative: "Being at the heart of the local community is what we are all about. While many people will be used to seeing us at events across the local area, this summer's pop-up radio is an opportunity for us to take community radio to new places, including some of the more isolated villages in the local region.

"As well as using the pop-up radio events to help people learn about their community radio station, we will also be teaming up with local organisations who have important messages to share on services available to help with matters such as mental wellbeing and cost of living pressures. This is a new venture for us, and we are grateful to the National Grid Electricity Transmission's Community Grant Programme for their financial support in helping to make it happen."

Rutland and Stamford Sound are inviting communities who would like to host pop-up radio to contact them. The intention is to cover a broad range of locations, in terms of both geographic spread and size of community, with the station keen to include smaller villages.

It is anticipated that most of the pop-up radio events will take place on a weekday morning, although the station will continue to be at weekend events as usual this summer. For more information please email: [email protected]

Rutland and Stamford Sound launched on 5 March 2021 as a not-for-profit community station. Earlier this month, the station celebrated its third birthday by touring Stamford, Oakham and Uppingham, all during the same morning. Rob Persani and a group of volunteers visited the three towns, talked to passers-by and handed out birthday cake.

Rutland and Stamford Sound is currently available on smart speakers, on mobile phone apps and online. For details on how to listen, head online.

Rob Persani and the team of volunteer directors are continuing to work hard behind the scenes to add either an FM or DAB option in the future.
