The future of The Parks School is set to be discussed at a public meeting in November.

In October 2022, it was revealed the the future of Parks Special Nursery was under threat and was facing closure, despite outcry from distressed local parents and carers.

Parents rallied in support of the school, sharing their stories and upset that the school faces closure despite being the only state funded specialist setting in Rutland.

SEND Rutland and local parents set up a petition to prevent the closure of the school, which surpassed 1,500 signatures.

Following this, Rutland County Council's Cabinet endorsed an engagement programme with the county's Early Years sector and parents, asking how they could further develop support for very young children with emerging needs, as well as their families.

In October 2022, they commented: "This will be a long process and is not specific to The Parks Special School. It will involve the whole of Rutland's Early Years sector."

Now, a public consultation on the future of the Parks Special Nursery School in Oakham is set to launch on 1 November 2023.

Residents have been invited to hear about the proposals at Wisteria Hotel, 4 Catmose Street, Oakham, from 6.30pm until 7pm.

Following the launch, the proposals will be published on Rutland County Council’s website at which point residents will be able to submit their comments until 30 November 2023.
