Students at Harington School are celebrating outstanding A level results this week, with over a third of all grades achieved at A*-A standard and nearly 90% of all grades at A*-C.

Eleven students achieved at least two A* grades which the school described as "an amazing achievement."

These were Joseph Banerjee (A*A*A*), Charlotte Lemon (A*A*A), Harry Lee Payton (A*A*A*), Madeline Kirby (A*A*A*), Thomas Nguyen (A*A*A*A), John Denton (A*A*A*A), Lucy Adams (A*A*A), Christopher Wright (A*A*A) Mia Forks (A*A*A),), Olivia Hunnikin (A*A*A), Emily Edwards (A*A*B).

This is particularly impressive as students need to typically achieve well over 90% in their exams to achieve this highest possible grade.

Eleven more students achieved at least three A grades.

The students were Thomas Carnell (A*AAA), Oliver Davies (AAA), Jonathan Haley (A*AAA), Dylan Palmer (A*AA), Eve Slattery (AAAB), Joseph Trevorrow (AAA), Charlotte Wells (AAA), Molly White (AAA), Stephen Wilson (A*AA), Max Bisp (A*, AA), Matthew Brucciani (AAAA)

Students have secured places at the most competitive universities in the country.

Christopher Wright will be studying Philosophy and Chinese at the University of Oxford, John Denton will study History at the University of Cambridge. Max Bisp (Birmingham) and Molly White (Newcastle) will pursue careers in Medicine whilst Charlotte Wells will begin her course in Veterinary Science at Liverpool.

Whilst university places are still being confirmed, the School is anticipating that nearly half of all students will have secured the grades required to take up a place at a prestigious Russell group university.

This compares favourably to the national average of less than a fifth.

Harington School says this reflects the high quality of specialist support provided by the school which will continue through to results day.

Students leaving the school will be studying a really diverse range of courses including Earth and Planetary Sciences, Aeronautical Engineering, Nursing, Medical Biosciences, Agri-Business, Law, Forensic Sciences, Fine Arts, Economics and Finance.

This year a small but growing number of students have opted to follow a degree apprenticeship route which gives students the opportunity to both work and study with the benefit of guaranteed employment. These courses include both the public (Police) and Private (Business, Engineering) sectors.

John Harrison, Head of School, said; "I am really proud of the achievements of all our students. Our students worked incredibly hard prior to lockdown and rightly deserve the opportunity to celebrate their achievements before starting the next stage of their journey."

This year A Level results have been awarded by the exam boards based on Centre Predictions made by the School alongside an applied statistical formula. This methodology has particularly benefitted centres like Harington with a history of strong academic performance.

When asked about his time at Harington, Joe Betts who will joining Leicestershire Police, said: "I have received outstanding supporting from all staff, with teachers passionate about their subjects, always going above and beyond. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Harington School."

Bethany Blazey, who will be studying Business Psychology at The University of Lincoln, said: "I have enjoyed my time at Harington, I have achieved better in my A Levels than I ever expected especially during these times, and this is all down to the support I have received from teachers.

"The staff at Harington really care about the students and get to know you as a person. I have nothing but positive words to say about Harington. I have enjoyed the extra-curricular activities offered, in particular the netball matches and tournaments"

Harington School is a sixth form college offering academic A levels based in Oakham, Rutland. It has gone from strength to strength since opening in September 2015, including being judged as Outstanding in all categories in an Ofsted report in January 2017.

The School has grown in size each year since opening and is expected to be over-subscribed for September 2020.

Alongside a strong emphasis on academic achievement, students at the school are actively encouraged to take part in a range of leadership, enrichment and volunteering activities.
