A number of services will be held across Rutland and Oakham on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day as a mark of respect. People will gather together proudly sporting their poppies to honour our fallen soldiers.

Everyone is welcome, with veterans and serving members of the armed forces standing alongside civic dignitaries who will gather with members of the public to mark the occasion and remember all those who have given their lives for their country.

On Friday, November 8, Rutland's third 'Festival of Remembrance' will be held in the Pavilion at Rutland Hall Hotel, starting with a reception at 6:30pm, followed by a concert at 7:30pm. The evening will include pipers, a band, saxophones, choirs and members of the military talking about their lives. Tickets for this event can be purchased via The Lord-Lieutenant's website (rutlandlordlieutenant.org).

On Saturday, November 9, at 7.30pm, All Saints' Church in Oakham will host the Rutland Concert Band, with a guest appearance by award winning soprano Katie Marshall. Tickets cost £5 on arrival and all proceeds will be donated to the Poppy Appeal.

On Sunday, November 10, the County Service of Remembrance will take place at All Saints' Church, Oakham. Starting at 2pm, Military Units, Cadets, Scouts, Guides, voluntary organisations and Armed Forces veterans will parade to the church, from Oakham Castle along the High Street. All members of the public are warmly invited to attend the Service and should be seated in All Saints' Church by 2:15pm. The service will start at 2:30pm.

On Armistice Day, Monday, November 11, at 10.45am, there will be a short Service of Remembrance in the grounds of Oakham Castle, to mark the day when Armistice was declared. This service will include a minute's silence at 11.00am. The service will be conducted by Venerable John Ellis CB, former Chaplain in Chief to the Royal Air Force, and representatives of local military units and veterans' organisations will be present. All members of the public are invited to attend.
