A new community is growing in a new housing development on the edge of Oakham, with new residents starting to move in.

Bellway's Barleywoods development in Oakham has had the first six properties moved in to out of the 18 that are currently complete. This is just a small proportion of what will eventually be 62 homes across an 8.3 acre site.

The development, when it has been completed, will feature a central open space, three play areas and a wetland meadow. Of the 62 homes, 43 will be for private sale with the other 19 intended as affordable homes for rent or shared ownership. Nine of these homes have already been handed over to the Sage Housing Association, five of which have already been moved into.

The development includes a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes that will be available to buy.

Michaela Perkins, Sales Manager for Bellway Eastern Counties, said: "Barleywoods is already home to a very diverse community. We have residents here from across the age spectrum, with some relocating from other parts of the country and in one case from as far afield as Hong Kong."

The development has been under construction since spring 2023 and is still under continued work as the rest of the houses are built.
