A road closure beginning today, 8 January 2024, is causing delays on local roads.

The A606 heading through Burton Lazars towards Melton Mowbray is closed for planned roadworks.

Burton Road, just south of Melton, is closed to traffic from today, Monday 8 January, until 28 January to allow contractors to carry out essential work on utility services being installed for a new development.

The work is being undertaken by Galliford Try.

Heavy vehicles that used this route have been advised to stay on the A1 and A52, while drivers heading to Melton Mowbray have been encouraged to pass through Great, Little Dalby Dalby or drive via Wymondham to avoid the closure.

However, residents and parish councils are concerned that heavy good vehicles may attempt to navigate the smaller rural roads to avoid taking the longer route.

The route diversions have been signposted.

The road closure is scheduled to go on for three weeks.

It is expected that a further closure will take place in the summer for approximately six weeks.
