Road works to commence on A1 following petition to government by Rutland MP Alicia Kearns
National Highways will undertake safety works on the A1 between South Witham and Little Ponton following a campaign by Rutland and Stamford MP Alicia Kearns.
Safety works on the A1 will commence from Monday 20th January and will include resurfacing and refreshing road markings, improving signage, clearing vegetation and carrying out layby maintenance work.
These works are expected to be complete by mid-April 2025, Monday to Friday between 8pm and 6am to minimise to the local community.
In order for this work to be carried out safely, there will be full carriageway closures, including slip roads, crossing points and laybys.
Between Monday 20th January and Friday 21st March 2025, the A1 Northbound is closed.
Between Monday 24th March and mid-April 2025, the A1 Southbound will be closed.
This is following a petition launched by MP Alicia Kearns calling for the Government and National Highways to improve the safety of the A1 between Stamford and Little Ponton.
This petition received nearly 2,000 signatures which is still open to sign on Alicia Kearns' website. Physical copies will also be sent out for residents to sign.
Speaking about the road works, Kearns said: "As part of my campaign to close the dangerous central reservation crossings, National Highways is also currently consulting on closing up to sixteen of the smaller crossings.
"This progress is a good start which shows are arguments are being heard and that they're taking the initiative."
