Rut (Land) of Plenty

By The Editor 16th Apr 2021

Rutland has been cited by the Times Newspaper has one of the best places to move to in the Midlands.

Today's edition reports that after the pandemic more of the region's large homes will be put on the market by downsizers, eager to be snapped up by people fleeing the capital for a better life in the country.

The newspaper said: "The bucolic lifestyle on offer in England's smallest county comes with a tasteful gloss coat that makes it ideal for rural newbies reluctant to give up entirely on city-style sophistication.

"The Rutland landscape is all rolling fields, ancient woodlands and pretty villages, but good taste is much in evidence in its twin towns of Oakham and Uppingham, where you'll find boutiques, an upmarket art gallery, Scandi design shops and bakeries serving some of the best bread in the country.

"Out in the sticks village life remains untroubled by last November's arrival of the county's first McDonald's (on the Oakham bypass) and the queue of disaffected city folk keen to grab a panoramic perch in the hearty countryside close to Rutland Water, haven for birdwatchers, sailors and wild swimmers and a lockdown lifesaver for joggers, cyclists and dog walkers."
