Here at Oakham Nub News, we are working closely with the team from the Rutland Book Club to bring you monthly instalments of our book club feature.

Laura Ray began running Rutland Book Club during the pandemic, and arranges monthly meet ups for other keen readers to discuss their chosen book of the month.

After a short break in which Laura took time off after hearing her baby - huge congratulations, Laura - the monthly book club feature from Oakham Nub News is back!

The book club title for this month is Cat Lady by Dawn O’Porter

About the book:

Mia has it all. A gorgeous home, husband, stepson, a fancy job with a jewellery company and her beloved cat Pigeon. Sometimes however having it 'all' isn't all it's cracked to be - having to put up with her husband's ex-wife who spends way too much time at their house.

She also works for a spoiled over-privileged it-girl with no common sense or perspective. Mia is living life the way society expects her to, not the way she really wants to.

What Mia is truly lacking are friends and she's so lonely that she joins a therapy group for people who are grief-stricken after losing their pets - even though hers is still very much alive. She lives in fear of losing Pigeon every day - she is the one constant in her life who got her through her former troubled years and still does today. In fact, Pigeon means more to her than her husband Tristan.

Then something happens and she makes the decision to finally live life for herself and of course - her cat Pigeon.

How to join the book club:

Rutland book Club be discussing this book on Wednesday 25 October 2023 at 7.30pm. This month the group will be returning to The Wisteria in Oakham.

Anyone is welcome to join the meetings, as well as the Rutland Book Club Facebook Group, where readers who cannot attend the meeting are still welcome to discuss each monthly title.

The book can be bought online or locally from Walkers Book Shop which is on the High Street in Oakham.

The monthly book will be shared here each month.

In the meantime, see you at The Wisteria on 25 October 2023.
