Rutland business units can now have a gym

By The Editor 18th May 2020

Revised plans for industrial units in Rutland have been approved.

Simon Smith of Stamford-based Forest Homes has gained approval for a gym to form part of a new industrial space and office development at The Stone Yard on Pit Lane, Ketton.

Some 35 full-time and 15 part-time jobs are promised in the development to be built on former allotments.

The jobs would be for people working in Stamford, 2.5 miles away, or at the proposed St George's housing development.

The application to Rutland Council says the 3,654m2 site area is allocated as employment land, and for this reason, plans for housing were turned down on the site.

In addition to a 1,572m2 building, the site would contain parking for 70 cars, 3 motorbikes and 12 cycles.

A council report noted some opposition from fears the scheme would create noise and traffic, but planning officers said a similar scheme, now withdrawn, had already being approved for the site and the only change is having a gym in a unit.
