Rutland Council is encouraging children to pay tribute to their school teachers as part of this year's national 'Thank A Teacher Day'.

The Thank a Teacher Campaign is run by The Teaching Awards Trust, giving children and young people an opportunity to recognise the amazing teachers and support staff who help them to learn and grow.

With families across the UK still in lockdown due to COVID-19, teaching staff are working as hard as ever to stay in contact with pupils and support them to study at home.

As part of Thank A Teacher Day, children are being asked to share their messages of thanks before May 20, some of which will be will be featured by the Thank a Teacher Campaign on social media.

The campaign aims to gather as many messages and stories as possible, so they can be shared with the whole country on National Thank a Teacher Day on Wednesday May 20.

Coun David Wilby, Cabinet Member for Education at Rutland County Council, said: "This is a fantastic campaign and I hope lots of children and young people in Rutland will want to get involved. We have tremendous schools and an extremely high standard of learning right across the county. This is the result of having skilled and dedicated teachers and support staff who are committed to giving children the best possible start in their academic life.

"This is a difficult time for teachers, who are having to work remotely from their pupils and colleagues. I can think of no better way to recognise the incredible job they do than by saying a huge thank-you ahead of May 20."
