Rutland Council encourages pension-age residents to use free bus travel
By Grace Kennington 24th Jun 2026
Rutland County Council are encouraging eligible, pension-aged residents to apply for and make the most of the Freedom Travel Pass, which provides free bus travel through the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS).
The Freedom Travel Pass allows older residents to travel free of charge on local bus services, helping them to stay independent, connected and active in the community.
The passes can be used on journeys between 9am and 11pm, Monday to Friday and all day on weekends and bank holidays.
Eligibility is tied to pension age, which is gradually increasing to 67 this year so the council encourages residents to check their personal retirement age.
Applying for the pass is simple and support is available for residents who may need help completing their application.
