DOG OWNERS ASKED TO PICK UP AFTER THEIR PETS

Dog owners are being reminded to pick up after their pets following an increase in dog fouling in Uppingham and Oakham.

Rutland County Council has received complaints from residents in both towns after an apparent rise in the number of people failing to bag and bin their dog's waste.

Councillor Gordon Brown, Cabinet Member for the Environment at Rutland County Council, said: "There really is no excuse for dog fouling in either of our market towns or for that matter any of our villages.

"There are plenty of bins where owners can dispose of dog waste and these are still being emptied, regularly. We know that daily walks are an important source of pleasure, respite and exercise during these strange times.

"Please continue to be considerate of other people and a responsible dog owner by picking up after your pet."

Dog fouling – whether loose or bagged – is offensive and a potential health hazard. It remains a widespread problem throughout the UK, even though nine out of 10 owners regularly clean up after their dog.
