A draft version of Rutland's updated Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is to be discussed by Rutland County Council's Growth, Infrastructure and Resources (GIR) Scrutiny Committee, this week.

Rutland's SCI sets out how the County Council will engage with local communities when carrying out its planning duties.

There is no legal requirement for Planning Authorities to consult on SCIs. However, Rutland County Council made a commitment to publish its draft SCI and invite feedback from local communities over a four-week period, running from 19 June to 17 July.

All of the feedback gathered as part of the consultation has now been reviewed and will be discussed by Members of the GIR Scrutiny Committee on Thursday 13 August, followed by Cabinet on Tuesday 18 August.

Councillor Gordon Brown, Cabinet Member for Planning, said: "I'd once again like to thank everyone who took the time to give us their feedback as part of the informal consultation on Rutland's SCI. We've been required to review the SCI in order to encompass statutory changes to planning regulations and make a number of alterations that ensure our local planning functions can continue to operate in the midst of COVID-19 restrictions – as indicated in national guidance.

"GIR Scrutiny will be asked to consider the responses that were received as part of our informal consultation on the draft revised SCI, as well as commenting on the amendments that have been put forward, before the document is submitted to Cabinet for approval."
