Rutland County Council is organising two special recruitment events aimed at encouraging more people to consider jobs in the transport sector.
The Council directly employs around 30 drivers and transport assistants who help to operate a small fleet of minibuses used for school travel and journeys for adults and children with special educational needs and disabilities. The Council also provides a driver and vehicle for the local Oakham Hopper bus service and relies on specially trained HGV drivers to operate its waste collection vehicles.
The events taking place on Wednesday 3rd and Saturday 6th August will give people a chance to learn more about the various transport roles at Rutland County Council and will also involve community transport providers, bus companies, taxi operators and other businesses who all rely on drivers as part of their day-to-day operations.
Two separate events are being held in the main Council Chamber at Rutland County Council's Oakham offices at the following times:
- Wednesday the 3rd of August, 11.00am to 2.00pm
- Saturday the 6th of August, 10.00am to 1.00pm
These events are open to anyone who would like to know more about a wide range of transport roles, which could include driving larger vehicles, coaches, public service buses, minibuses and taxis. There will also be information about passenger assistant roles and volunteering opportunities locally.
Councillor Rosemary Powell, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Rutland County Council, said: "Lots of businesses and organisations in Rutland have found it hard to recruit people to transport roles in recent months. However, it remains a great sector full of interesting opportunities.
"A job in transport can allow you to work locally and earn a competitive salary. For some people, it may be a chance to try something completely new or create a better work-life balance. Many of our drivers find it incredibly rewarding to transport passengers from all walks of life and help them to get around safely."
Rutland County Council, voluntary organisations, taxi companies and bus operators will all be represented at these events. For more information, please email: [email protected] or call: 01572 722 577.
