Rutland farmers have suffered at least six thefts of farm gates and police feat more similar incidents.

In Morcott, two metal field gates 2-foot by 12 foot, were taken from Seaton Road, between 5pm last Tuesday (October 27) and 10am Wednesday.

In Barrowden around the same time, two galvanised steel field gates worth £200 were unscrewed from hinges in Seaton Road.

Police says there have been six such thefts in the past two weeks, and say there is every reason to think they will continue.

They appear to occur midweek during darkness on small country lanes. Two men and a lorry or open backed truck will be required.

Police warn people seeing anyone apparently working on farm gates, not to approach them but if possible, note the number plate of the vehicle and report this to Police on telephone 101 for info for PC2113 Peter Icke of Oakham Police.

Those who believe a crime is in progress is asked to dial 999.
