This weekend, on Sunday the 7th of August, the fire services and farming community came together to stop the spread of a blaze on agricultural land between Brooke and Ridlington.

A stretch of crops has been decimated after a combine harvester allegedly hit a rock, causing sparks, which ignited the field off of Brooke Road on Sunday.

A group of Rutland residents witnessed the blaze, with many commenting on the community spirit of the farming community, who came together to stop the spread of the fire.

The fire services were also quick to act, arriving on the scene swiftly.

Local farmers attended the scene with their tractors and, using a farm pump, extracted water from the nearby water source to put out the fires. Using this method they also filled the fire engines, which can only carry 600 litres each and, with no hydrant in such a rural location, may not have had enough water onboard to stem the blaze.

Local man, Vince commented after witnessing the incident: "Well done crews from Uppingham, Oakham, Market Harborough and Melton Mowbray."
