Rutland Foodbank is holding a collection day in Oakham on Saturday (14 Sept) to replenish stocks after a hike in demand over the school summer holidays.
A Rutland Foodbank spokesman told Oakham Nub News: "We usually rely on harvest festival events to restock our larder after summer.
"However, stocks in our Langham warehouse are looking a bit thin on the ground after a very busy school holiday period.
"At the end of the holiday we handed out emergency food parcels to 24 people in two hours - a record for one day.
"As a result we really to need an interim collection before harvest."
The foodbank collection is being held on Saturday at The Co-op Foodstore in Burley Road from 10am to 4pm.
"We are in need of literally everything - from tinned food to toiletries, animal food to sanitary towels and nappies.
"The people of Rutland have always been fantastic in helping the foodbank and we are hoping they will support us again.
"We are also grateful to the Co-op staff and management for enabling the collection - they have always been there for us."
Rutland Foodbank, at the rear of Melton Road, provides three days' nutritionally-balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis who are referred to the charity. It is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
