A conference about a planned reorganisation of health services in Leicestershire and Rutland will take place online early next month.
The event on Wednesday December 9 is being staged by the Rutland Health & Social Care Policy Consortium, a voluntary group of local residents which studies the application of public policy to health and social care services serving Rutland.
The consortium says the plan to invest £450m to reconfigure University Hospital's Leicester is very welcome and long overdue.
The group: "We are now 8 weeks into a 12 week public consultation on the proposals. This conference aims to openly explore concerns raised by the public consultation 'Building Better Hospitals For The Future'. It will focus on the impact on Rutland if proposals go ahead unchanged. "
The event will include l be joined by policy makers and politicians.
The group continued: "Rutland will be severely disadvantaged if community services are not in place to compensate for the loss of a hospital, diagnostic and outpatient services on the East of Leicester."
A variety of questions and topics are likely to be covered.
They include:
What will happen to services at Rutland Memorial Hospital and the Karen Ball Unit? What community services will there be to prevent Rutlanders having expensive and long journeys for regular treatments and outpatients? Can the 10 key services identified as valued by Rutlanders in September 2019 be secured into a funded, official plan for Rutland? People seeking more information on the event or the reorganisation are asked to email [email protected] To book a place, go to the link here. As Nub News also reported yesterday, a virtual panel event will also take place on Thursday December 3 on the same issue.
